Water Resistance Of Samsung Gear S2 - March 2019
The Samsung Gear S2 has a lot of interesting features that make it one of the best smartwatches you can buy. It is highly compatible with a long list of applications. It can help you track and improve your fitness. And, of course, it lets you utilize your phone without actually needing to touch your phone.
The Gear S2 shines in other ways aside from its compatibility and functionality. There is also the matter of style as well as durability. A smartwatch can be a hefty investment. Thus, you want a device that looks good and can take a bit of damage without needing to be replaced. The Gear S2 passes both of these tests.
Water Proof And Dust Proof
“Waterproof” might be an overstatement for most devices because they may still be susceptible to water damage in extreme cases or bizarre accidents. However, the Samsung Gear S2 comes as close to waterproof as a device can get.
A device’s actual resistance to water or dust can be rated using the Ingress Protection Rating System. When a device is said to have a rating of “IP12” that means it has an Ingress Rating of “1” for dust resistance and “2” for water resistance (which are not good numbers). The Gear S2 has a rating of IP67.
The first number is the dust resistance. The Ingress system rates dust resistance on a scale of 1 to 6. Since the Gear S2 has a dust resistance of 6, it means it as good as it gets. Dust is not a problem for this smartwatch.
The rating system of water resistance is slightly different. A rating of 7 means that the Gear S2 can survive in up to 1 meter of water for a total of thirty minutes. Did you drop the watch in a sink, bathtub, bucket of water, or the toilet? If so, it should be perfectly fine as long as you remove before it has been there for thirty minutes. Did you drop it off the side of a boat meters into the ocean? In that case, the Gear S2 is most likely out of commission.
Points To Remember
Even with such a high resistance to water, there are some important tips to remember. For example, after being submerged in water, it is possible that the microphone speaker has gotten wet. If this is the case, then your voice may not be heard correctly on a call. You will need to wipe it dry with a soft cloth.
As a matter of fact, if you are near water it might be a good idea to keep a dry cloth handy nearby. Anytime you get the phone wet you want to dry it thoroughly with a cloth before using it again. The water will affect how the touchscreen responds. On a similar note, the touchscreen is not likely to work while you have the phone submerged under water, just in case you wanted to try it.
Durable And Stylish
It takes one look at the Gear S2 to know that they are extremely stylish. Now you know they are durable and resistant as well.
